Many schools across the US are finding it hard to deal with student misbehavior. And usually, students are punished for not knowing how to behave rather than being taught appropriate behavior. The objective of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is teaching positive behavior. You may be asking, “What is PBIS?” This article will answer that question.

Behavior

It is extremely important to keep control and manage your class to be able to teach effectively. However, learning how to reduce misbehavior in the classroom can be quite complicated. Consistency is key. You should have a plan of action for those who overstep the boundaries. Build relationships with the students that help them to learn while managing their emotions. Positive relationships help students grow emotionally and allow them to make decisions responsibly when it comes to their interactions in the classroom. More importantly, you should keep students engaged and focused.

We often hear the words, “just think positive”. But what does that mean and what is it meant to accomplish? Is positivity based just on what is said or is there more to it? Teachers can unleash the power of positivity into day-to-day activities, not just in the classroom to improve morale and overall performance, not just of the learners, but in themselves as well.

Professional Development

Teacher professional development refers to specialized training, education, and advanced professional learning intended to help teachers and other educators improve their knowledge, skills, competence, and effectiveness. It can be delivered in person or online, through one-on-one interactions or in group situations, during the school day or beyond normal school hours. Professional development may be funded by schools, districts, or state programs, and are conducted by highly experienced educational consultants.

What is Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports? Also known as PBIS, it is a program that schools use to improve student behavior. It integrates classroom management, school-wide discipline strategies, and effective academic instruction to create a positive school environment for students. PBIS is one of the areas covered by professional development in education.

Behavior

In an ideal setting, a classroom should have a teacher facilitating lessons, while the students are carefully listening, learning, and collaborating about a particular subject. But in reality, that scenario may be different from what’s happening in many classrooms.

Usually, teachers have students with difficult behavior problems in their classrooms. These students engage in behaviors that can be disruptive to the whole class. It can set off a chain reaction, affecting not only the teacher but other students as well. Educational consulting and professional development can help educators develop skills on how to address this issue.

Behavior

Classroom management is the process of making sure that lessons run smoothly despite disruptive behavior by students. It is the series of actions that teachers do to create a successful learning environment. For many teachers, it is one of the most challenging aspects of teaching. In fact, some teachers leave the profession because they find it hard to manage classrooms. Professional development aims to help educators by teaching them classroom management strategies.
